Gesell Winding Down

Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Brian Snow caught up with Mike Gesell at last week's Peach Jam. The 2012 Nebraska spoke about his recruitment and how things are winding down in the process.

For 6-foot-1 guard Mike Gesell this is his final run through the AAU circuit. His All-Iowa Attack squad has been very successful over the past few years, and he is looking forward to finishing up strong this July.

"It's been a lot of fun," said Gesell. "Our team is really close and this is our last go around so we are trying to make the most of it."

He continued, "I think I have played pretty well this summer. I played well at the NBA Camp and then I think I have played well here at the Peach Jam, but I just try and stay level headed."

All-Iowa Attack is going to be a popular team for coaches to watch. With only one committed prospect, All-Iowa tends to have a hoard of coaches following them. Gesell knows that some schools in particular will be at every game.

"All of the coaches that have offered me said that they would be at my games," said Gesell. "Coach (Fran) McCaffery, Doc Sadler, Johnny Dawkins, and also Virginia hasn't offered but Tony Bennett said they would really be watching me closely."

With schools like Iowa, Nebraska, and Stanford following his every move, Gesell knows that he has to start thinking things over in his head in terms of a decision.

"I've been trying to think about it," Gesell said about his upcoming decision. "I know the decision is coming soon, maybe sooner than I even think. I am trying to just sort through things in my head and make a pros and cons list of everything."

At the moment Gesell is trying to really break everything down and figure out which is the right place for him. He would like to take a few visits after July, but at this point he is unsure of which schools he will go and see.

While he doesn't know any of the specifics yet, Gesell does know what factors will go into him making his final decision.

"Definitely my relationship with the coaches and style of play will be important," stated Gesell. "Academics are also a big part of who I am, so that will be important. Also my relationship with the current players on the team is important. I want to see if they are guys who I would like to be on a team with."

For now Gesell is just playing out the AAU season, but there is no question that a college decision will be on his mind.
