DeJuan Marrero isn't about to show his hand. He's keeping his thoughts on the programs recruiting him private.
"I'm taking it school by school right now," the 6-foot-6, 218-pound, 2012 wing said. "End of August and September is when I'm planning on making my official visits. I hope to have a decision before high school basketball starts and get it out of the way."
"I have all of them the same right now," the Gary, IN product said. "I'm just discussing things with my mom and my high school coach. We're looking at where we're at.
"We're planning on setting up the officials this month and next month."
Marrero would not say which of the schools would definitely get an official visit from him.
"I'm still deciding," he said. "Different schools have been calling. I'm still taking it slowly. I just hope to get through this process before my high school season starts."
"The most important thing to me is the education," he said about picking a college. "Then, it's the style of offense. I like to go up and down and attack. I like fast breaking and transition. I'm very interested to see how the coach runs the offense."
Marrero said he's worked a lot on his ball handling during the last year.
"I know in college I'm going to be a three or a two handling the rock," he said. "I worked on handling the ball and getting my weight up. I've gotten a lot bigger since last year."
Marrero saw the Iowa campus last spring when he was passing through town taking a friend to a college to the west. The Hawkeyes have pursued him consistently since then.
"Right now, their interest level is high," Marrero said. "Like I said, my mind if open in my recruitment. I'm just looking for a school where I fit.
"They like my energy level I bring to the court. I have a high motor and can go up and down. I can finish well and I can attack the rebound hard."
