Iowa Connection

2012 PG Trey Dickerson has gotten lost in the recruiting shuffle a bit since moving from the East to West Coast. He talks with Hawkeye Insider about his connection to Iowa and what things look like for him on the recruiting front.

Fran McCaffery's roots are on the East Coast. They could help the Philadelphia native land a talented point guard out of New York City by way of California.

Trey Dickerson grew up in Queens but has since moved to Los Angeles. The 6-foot point guard in the Class of 2012 attends Montclair Prep.

"Yeah, Iowa has been watching me a lot this summer," Dickerson said. "Coach McCaffery told my uncle that he wants to watch me a little more before he offers."

McCaffery has known Dickerson's uncle, Steve Little, and his AAU Coach, Adam Berkowitz, for years.

"Iowa is one of my favorites because they've known Coach McCaffery for a long time and I trust him," Dickerson said. "I also like Washington and West Virginia a lot."

Dickerson reports offers from Detroit and Loyola. He feels like Wyoming is close to coming forward with an official opportunity. He's also hearing from Iowa, Washington, West Virginia, St. Joseph's, Seton Hall, San Diego State and Pepperdine.

"Education is real important to me," Dickerson said. "I want to study communications. Style of play and a good relationship with the coach is most important to me when it comes to basketball.

"I like to get up and down the floor. I like to run like what they do at Kentucky."

Dickerson has unofficially visited Georgetown, Rhode Island and USC. He planned to take more visits this month.

"I definitely want to see Iowa, West Virginia, Washington and San Diego State," he said.

Dickerson said that McCaffery feels like the point guard fits well into the Iowa system.

"He said he likes how I push the ball and get others involved," Dickerson said. "I also can score and rebound. I really do everything pretty well."
