True Freshmen in Action: Ray Hamilton and Marcus Collins started things off on the kick return team. Damon Bullock, who was recruited as a running back, moved to wide receiver and was in on the first series in the slot.

After two early fumbles by starter Marcus Coker, Mika'il McCall came in at running back. The rookie from Chicago left later in the first half with a season-ending leg injury.

Safety Nico Law also saw action in his first ever game at Kinnick. The true freshman from lined up for kick coverage to start the second half.

Jordan Lomax came in after the hour and a half lightning delay. He replaced Shaun Prater at cornerback. Marcus Grant entered the game at wide receiver in the fourth quarter.

Injury Report: Kirk Ferentz mentioned early in the week that several players would be out for the game. The list included Carl Davis, Nolan MacMillan, B.J. Lowery and Brad Rogers. Dakota Getz dressed even tough the coach said he would be out the next 2-4 weeks.

McCall broke his ankle on a late first-quarter carry.He'll miss the remainder of the year and receive a medical redshirt.

"We're all disappointed," Kirk Ferentz said. "Nobody is more more disappointed than him. He's just really a tremendous young guy with a great attitude, great spirit. He was looking forward to playing and was playing very, very well.

"From where I was siting, it looked like he and Jordan Bernstine almost had it in a different gear than anybody else on our team, which was good to see."

Position Battles - Matt Myers got the start and saw most of the reps at fullback. Jonathan Gimm did play.

Colin Sleeper started and played the first four or five series at strong safety. Jordan Bernstine replaced him and saw plenty of reps. Bernstine then replaced him and played several series.

Matt Tobin played the first three quarters at left guard. Brandon Scherff came in after the weather delay.

On the defensive line. Dominic Alvis started at tackle and saw most of the reps. Steve Bigach and Joe Gaglione were used here before the subs replaced the number ones late in the game.

Christian Kirksey played the meaningful minutes at WLB. Antony Hitchens came in for him when the game was decided.
