Mabin Getting Close

2012 Florida Wide Receiver Greg Mabin finishes up his season this weekend. After that, he'll get down to making his decision. Iowa appears to be the clear leader. See what else he has to say about his recruitment in this update.

Greg Mabin named Iowa the leader for his services weeks ago. It doesn't sound like any other schools have made up ground on the Hawkeyes in the pursuit of the Florida wide receiver. In fact, they've pulled away heading to the finish line.

Mabin officially visited Iowa on Oct. 15 fore the Northwestern game. Middle Tennessee State and Harvard have been the only other schools showing interest in him, he said.

"I got a call from Harvard (Sunday)," the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Class of 2012 member said. "The coach said he liked me a lot and wanted to get me up on a visit soon. He's going to come down to see me before Christmas.

"It sounds cool at first, but for right now at least, I don't think I can really see myself as a Harvard student-athlete."

Mabin holds scholarship offers from Iowa and Middle Tennessee State.

"I'm interested (in Middle Tennessee), but Iowa is still my number one," the Calvary Christian Academy (Ft. Lauderdale) senior said. "I'm not really hearing from anybody else. I'm going to send out the highlight tape after our last game. That way I can have the full season.

"I'll probably send it to Iowa, Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee, Pitt, Tulane and whoever shows interest before I commit."

Mabin doesn't sound like someone who is going to let the process drag out. His last game is on Saturday.

"I told myself that I wanted to wait until after (his) season before I committed," Mabin said. "The season is almost over, so it could be anywhere within the next two or three weeks."

The Hawkeyes are letting him know that they'll wait, he said.

"They still call me on a weekly basis," Mabin said. "They just want me to know that they're still here; they're still waiting for my answer. A lot of it is to just touch base to see how I'm doing. I think it's mostly to show that they're still interested and that they will be interested until I finally make my decision."

Mabin has rolled up about 850 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior.
