Former Penn State verbal Joey O'Connor re-opened his recruitment last month and started over. He plans to take his four remaining official visits and Iowa appears to be in the mix for one of them. Read what he had to say in this update.
Joey O'Connor thought he had his college decision sealed with a verbal commitment to Penn State earlier this fall. Then, a national scandal hit the school and the 2012 offensive lineman decided to look elsewhere.
O'Connor, a Scout four-star prospect and 12th-ranked guard in his class, expects to visit Ohio State and Boise State. Iowa also could be in the mix for a trip to campus.
"Their offensive line coach, Coach (Reese) Morgan, is coming out to see me on Wednesday," the 6-foot-3 1/2, 285-pound prospect from Windsor (CO) High said. "I'm interested. We're just going to talk and we'll see where it goes from there."
O'Connor holds offers from a lot of schools but is looking at Boise State, Ohio State, Iowa, California, TCU, Oregon and Minnesota.
"I'm going to take all of my visits (he has four officials left) in January," O'Connor said. "So, I'll decide sometime after that."
Windsor won the Colorado Class 3A state championship this fall. The 4A winner was Valor Christian, for which another Hawkeye target, Alex Kozan, plays.
Morgan also will be visiting Kozan on Wednesday.
