Iowa Working Jets

The Southwest Illinois Jets AAU team is scheduled to send four of its Class of 2014 members to visit Iowa next month. Find out about the players and the connection with the Hawkeyes in this recruiting update.

In its quest to strengthen ties with AAU programs in the region, Iowa is becoming friendly with some of the top clubs in the Midwest. The Southwest Illinois Jets are one of those groups.

The Hawkeyes are looking hard at the program's Class of 2014 members. They're scheduled to bring four of them in for a visit on May 5.

"I think a lot of our guys are really interested in them and love their style of play," Jets Assistant Director Dana Morgan said. "They've enjoyed talking to (Iowa Assistant Andrew Francis) on several occasions. I think there is a great interest between both parties."

Morgan said that Francis serves as a strong ambassador for the Iowa program.

"I talk to Coach Francis probably once a week," Morgan said. "He's a great guy. He really loves Iowa and really promotes the Iowa brand in a great way."

Morgan talked about the four players visiting Iowa next month:

Darius Austin, 6-7, Wing, Cahokia High - He can probably play four positions. He can shoot from the outside and get to the basket. He's really good in the open court handling the ball. He can distribute and finish. He's very long, athletic and I think he's a kid who the doctors think can get to 6-8. He's going to have an excellent college basketball career.

Offers - DePaul, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Interest - Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Illinois, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Xavier, Butler, Ohio State, Missouri State and Wichita State.

Decision Timeline - Wants to make college choice in Fall of '12.

Peyton Allen, 6-4, Combo Guard, Glenwood Chatham High - He can shoot it. He's athletic. He's very savvy with the ball. He can handle the ball a lot better than people realize. He finishes around the basket and knows the game. He can play the two or the one because he's a very unselfish kid.

Offers - Oklahoma State, Bradley.

Interest - Illinois, Michigan, Xavier, Butler, Ohio State, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Florida State, Depaul.

Decision Timeline - Most likely the start of senior year.

Darreon Reddick , 6-3, Combo Guard, Belleville East High - He is a very, very physical guard. He can post up smaller guards and take bigger guards off of the dribble. He's great in transition. He's great around the basket. He also can step out and shoot the ball.

Offers - Depaul.

Interest - Xavier, Ohio State, Michigan, Kansas State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Saint Louis.

Decision Timeline - Wants to make college choice in Fall of '12.

C.J. Rivers , 6-3, Point Guard, Cahokia High - He is the prototypical point guard. He's very long and he is a great distributor. He runs our offense. He runs his high school's offense. He gets everybody involved. He's a leader. He also can score when he needs to. I think he has a great upside.

Offers - None.

Interest - SIU-Edwardsville, Saint Louis, Michigan, Xavier, Depaul, Wichita State.

Decision Timeline - Could make college choice before start of junior season.

Morgan said the quartet will visit Xavier together on May 19.

"This is Peyton's first year with us," Morgan said. " They had a great relationship with Peyton before he started playing with us. Darreon, C.J. and Darius have talked about playing in college together.I think it could be something that happens where two of the four kids maybe go to the same school."
