Bonifas Still Looking

Seth Bonifas picked up a scholarship offer from Iowa just before his 14th birthday. The big man from Dubuque continues to work on his game and is attracting more attention on the recruiting trail. get the latest in this update with video interview.

Seth Bonifas says he's having fun. He's 15. He's tall. He's holding a scholarship offer from Iowa with other schools showing interest in him.

"It's going good," Bonifas said of recruiting. "I'm enjoying the process. You only get this opportunity once in your life, so you have to enjoy it."

The 6-foot-9 big man from Dubuque Senior High helped the Iowa Barnstormers 16U AAU team to the championship of last weekend's Spring Fling in North Liberty, IA. His game has continued to evolve since Hawkeye Head Coach Fran McCaffery extended an offer to him in September.

"I need to get stronger," Bonifas said. "That's always been a big thing for me. I have to keep working on finishing strong and my 12-foot- jump shot."

Bonifas thought about committing to McCaffery after receiving his offer. Instead, he's looked around at other schools to make sure of his decision.

"I really like Iowa," Bonifas said. "I like what they're doing there. They're starting to have a winning program. I really like Wisconsin, too, and I've been talking to Lehigh.

"I don't really have a timetable right now. I'm just kind of letting it ride out. I will make a decision if it feels right. I don't know what I'm going to go to school for yet. Once I make that decision, the basketball decision will be easier."

Bonifas has visited Wisconsin. He also heard from Northern Iowa and Lehigh.

Since picking up the Iowa offer, Bonifas can feel the eyes on him. Onlookers dissect his game wondering if he's worthy of this opportunity at such a young age.

"That's always in the back of your mind," Bonifas said. "You figure people are going to be watching you. I try to put that out of my head and just play the game. I can't worry about what other people are saying or thinking."
