Colin Goebel had been inching towards a commitment throughout the month. On Saturday, he took the final step.
"He was real excited and happy and felt good to get the first ('13) O-line commit," Goebel said of Ferentz. "I'm still kind of on Cloud 9."
"I just narrowed down my choices and Iowa seemed like the right fit," the Naperville (IL) North High product said. "A lot of the other schools that were interested, like Michigan and Notre Dame, already had guys (in the '13 class) already on the O-line. I narrowed it down and Iowa was the only one left and I just thought it was the right time. I was visiting this weekend anyways and the time was right."
Scout.com lists Goebel as a three star recruit on its five-star scale and the No. 17 guard nationally in the '13 class. He said the main reason he chose the Hawkeyes was their coaching staff.
"I fit with them," he said. "The coaches are all nice. They seem like my type of coaches."
"It's a weight off of my shoulders," Goebel said. "I can concentrate on lifting, working hard and getting ready for my senior season."
That's not the only task on Goebel's mind.
"I'm going to reach out to the other guys that have committed (to Iowa) and hopefully we can start helping with the rest of the class," he said.
