The playing status of 2013 Iowa Verbal Commit Trevon Young of Des Moines Lincoln still was known on Thursday. The Railsplitters open the season Friday against Johnston.

The playing status of 2013 Iowa football verbal commitment Trevon Young was still uncertain on Thursday. Des Moines Lincoln Coach Tom Mihalovich said the Railsplitters were awaiting a decision from the school district. The coach said he didn't expect an outcome to be known until Friday afternoon.

Lincoln opens its 2012 campaign against Johnston on Friday…with or without its star two-way player. Young was one of six people arrested in late July of burglary and interference with public acts.

Mihalovich said neither he or Trevon had heard from the Iowa coaches in terms of anything changing with Trevon's Hawkeye scholarship. So, there was that.

Mihalovich added that he was not sure if Trevon would be playing in Lincoln's season-opener against Johnston Friday night. The coach said they were waiting to hear from the district in regards to whether or not his star would be on the field.

I called Lincoln AD Phil Chia right after talking to Mihalovich this morning to see if he could shed any more light on the situation. He didn't return my phone call.

Mihalovich said that Young has been practicing the team.
