"He's an amazing guy," said Nixon, a 2015 PG from Illinois. "He's real funny and real laid back. He's just an all-around good guy."
Nixon unofficially visited Iowa on Saturday. It wasn't his first trip to the school.
"It was great," the 6-foot-1, 155-pound Nixon said. "The facilities are great. The coaching staff is amazing. They have some really good players this year. They should really do something nice (this season)."
Nixon, who plays for Bolingbrook (IL) High and the Illinois Wolves AAU program, reports offers from Colorado State and SMU. He's consistently hearing from Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Oregon State, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State, he said.
Nixon said he would like to choose a school sometime during his junior season. He's a sophomore now.
"I will give Iowa a good amount of consideration when it comes time for me to pick a school," Nixon said.
Nixon said he likes what he hears from McCaffery in regards to where the coach is hoping to take the Hawkeyes.
"He wants to recruit the best players he can for his team to do the best that they can," Nixon said. "They want to do big things, make it to the tournament, get to the Final Four and win a national championship."
Nixon likes Iowa's up-tempo style of play and believes in McCaffery's vision.
"They're not high in the rankings now but they're trying to build and get there," he said. "They just want to recruit good players so they can be one of the top teams in the country."
Nixon said he has set up October visits to Marquette and Indiana.
