Iowa in Edwards' Top 3

Berkley Edwards visited Minnesota last week and has upcoming trips scheduled to Cal and Iowa. The 2013 Michigan RB talked about his Top 3 and his decision timeline in this update.

Berkley Edwards said his recruitment is winding to a close. The 2013 Michigan running back still appears to have a tough decision in front of him, however.

"I feel like I'm pretty far along in this process," Edwards said. "After I take a couple of more visits to colleges, then I plan on making my decision after (his) football season is over (the last week of October)."

Edwards is scheduled to officially visit California this Friday. He's set up an official trip to Iowa on Oct. 20. He started things off with a stop in Minnesota last week.

The three schools are recruiting Edwards as a running back. ranks the 5-foot-9, 185-pounder as the 64th best player at the position nationally in the '13 class.

Edwards said that Cal, Iowa and Minnesota, in no particular order, are his top three schools. He also said he's open to other programs coming into the picture for his services.

"Those are the schools that are the most interested right now," Edwards said.

Outside of his Top 3, Edwards said he's hearing from Tennessee and Western Michigan. He is sending senior film to Alabama and LSU based on them requesting it when he camped there this summer.

"They want me to send my tape in and they'll determine from there," Edwards said.

Edwards said his decision will come down to "the atmosphere of the school; academics are important; the coaching staff and how they interact with the players."

Here's briefly what he had to say about his Top 3:

Cal - I really don't know a lot about them, but everybody tells me that it's a very, very nice place. They have a very nice team. I'm looking forward to visiting there.

Iowa - Iowa is a good team. They're struggling a little bit right now. I definitely want to visit there because it's a good school.

Minnesota - I like Minnesota a lot. I like the city. I like the coaching staff and the players there and the atmosphere.

Edwards is connected to the Hawkeyes by a relationship that reaches back in time. His lead recruiter from the school, Erik Campbell, coached his brother, Braylon Edwards, at Michigan.

"I've known him for as far back as I can remember," Berkley said of Campbell. "We have a pretty good relationship. (He and Braylon) really haven't talked about it. He doesn't have to tell me anything. I know Coach Campbell is a good guy."

Berkley likes that Iowa is known for running the football.

"I take it into account big," he said. "It's important to know the history of a school and what they produce."
