The 2015 guard from Minneapolis De La Salle and Net Gain AAU unofficially visited Iowa City. He looked on when the Hawkeye football team rolled through Minnesota, 31-13, Saturday in the Big Ten season-opener for the schools.
Last week, Anim talked about his recruiting history with Iowa here.
"I loved it," Anim said of his Iowa visit. "I loved their campus. It's real big. The players are really nice. The whole community was welcoming; the coach's family. It's a great school."
Anim was impressed by the football game atmosphere.
"Almost the whole community comes down to the football games," he said. "That's nice. They support the team and I like that. They're behind their team no matter what."
McCaffery seeks the scouting reports of his assistants, as he trusts their judgment. In the end, the head coach has to see the player perform on the court in person and also likes getting to know him.
"It went real well, actually," Anim said of his first conversation with McCaffery. "We talked about 30 minutes to an hour. We just talked about tradition, school. We talked about what kind of player he likes and what he likes about my game.
"He complimented me. He likes high-character kids; teams that are good on and off of the court. We talked about his relationship with players and the style they play. We talked about him being at the school he was at before (Iowa) and how he's changed things."
Anim wanted to make the most of his drive to Iowa City, so he came to town on Friday. He was up early and on campus by 8 a.m. on game day.
"I didn't get to talk to any of the academic advisors or anything," Anim said. "He showed me the Pappajohn Business Building. That was nice."
The new practice facility and recent Carver-Hawkeye Arena renovations also impressed Anim.
"(McCaffery) said he would see me around pretty soon," Anim said. "I think he'll be coming to the school and watching me play; come to the open gyms. I'll think I'll see them more often now."
Anim's Iowa trip appears to be his last campus trip for a while.
"I don't believe I'll be taking anymore visits this fall," he said. "I'm just going to try to focus on the basketball season. Maybe next summer I'll be taking more visits. But for now, I'm just going to relax (recruiting) and focus on the season."
De La Salle hoops squad also features Reid Travis, who visited Iowa for football during the weekend, Anim said.
