Daniels Picks Iowa

Iowa added a verbal commitment on Friday when Ohio running back LeShun Daniels jumped on board. The Class of 2013 prospect spoke with HI about his decision.

Two days after running back Greg Garmon announced that he was leaving Iowa, the Hawkeyes secured a commitment from a ball carrier in the Class of 2013. Warren, Ohio's LeShun Daniels de-committed from Boston College on Friday and switched his pledge to Iowa.

"I just feel like it's the right place for me," the 6-foot, 215-pound Daniels said. "I loved it when I was up there (last weekend). Everything was a good fit. It was a tough decision to make, but I slept on it, thought about it long and hard this week and just came to the conclusion that Iowa is the right place for me."

Daniels committed to the Eagles in the summer but reopened his recruitment a few weeks ago when the school fired head coach Frank Spaziani. He talked about that decision here.

Iowa played host to Daniels on an official visit last weekend. He talked about that here.

"It's a place that feels like home," the Warren G. Harding High product said. "It's like where I've been and where I've lived. I've never really been to big areas and I like smaller areas.

"I'm undecided, so I like how they have all types of different majors. I can make myself a good career."

Daniels, who rushed for 1,614 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior, said he also bonded with the people in Iowa City.

The Hawkeyes have a crowded backfield even without Garmon. The top two rushers from 2012, Mark Weisman and Damon Bullock, each retain two years of eligibility as does Jordan Canzeri, who started in the 2011 Insight Bowl.

"Anywhere you go you're going to have to compete for a spot," Daniels said. "No coach is going to give you anything. That's the way I look at it.

"There's no way you can just go into a place expecting that you're going to start. You're going to have to work for it."

Scout.com ranks Daniels as the 97th-best RB nationally in the 2013 class. The service sees him as a three-star recruit.

Daniels becomes the Hawkeyes 18th known verbal commitment (one grayshirt) in the 2013 class.
