Spearman Picks Hawks

Reggie Spearman ended his recruitment Tuesday night by committing to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

When it came time for Reggie Spearman to announce what college he would be attending next fall, the Chicago linebacker pulled as fast one. He first said he was going to go to Syracuse before throwing the Orangemen's hat off and replacing it with an Iowa lid, according to Scout.com's Allen Trieu, who attended the event at Chicago Simeon.

Illinois was a finalist along with Iowa and Syracuse. The three-star prospect chose the Hawkeyes after weeks of communicating with fans from those three schools and others on Twitter, bringing him a lot of attention and confusing his followers.

Scout.com ranks the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Spearman as the No. 71 outside linebacker nationally in the class of 2013. He verbally committed to Illinois in August before reopening his November.

Spearman came into this week with a Top 5 of Iowa, Illinois, Syracuse, Minnesota and Indiana. Monday night, he eliminated The Gophers and Hoosiers.
