Stelter Picks Up Another

Andrew Stelter picked up his second scholarship offer on Monday and has plenty of other big programs evaluating him. The Minnesota defensive end talks about his recruitment in this update.

Andrew Stelter was checking his Facebook page Monday when he saw a message from Iowa State Assistant Michael Conrad. The Cyclones had some good news for the Minnesota defensive end.

"I gave him a call right then and there," Stelter said. "He said that all of the coaches sat down and watched my film again and they decided to give me an offer."

Iowa State joined Minnesota in extending a scholarship opportunity to Stelter.

"They're a good program," he said. "I'm going to try to get down to their junior day on (March) 31st. I want to learn more about the program."

The 6-foot-4, 244-pound Stelter visited the Hawkeye State in January. He attended a junior day at Iowa.

"I'm hearing quite a bit from Iowa," he said. "They said they are very interested in me. They want me to come down to camp. They want me there to visit with them again.

"I was really impressed when I went down there. They're a great program. They have great facilities. I talked with Coach (Eric) Johnson and the D-Line coach (Reese Morgan). I like them."

Stelter said he has been invited to visit Michigan State, Michigan, Nebraska, Northern Illinois and LSU (junior day).

"I would like to take a trip out to Northern Illinois," Stelter said. "They're pretty interested in me. From there, maybe I can get up to Michigan and Michigan State. I don't have any plans set, but I want to get out to see a lot of schools this spring and summer."

One school very familiar to Stelter is in his home state.

"I'm really close with Minnesota, especially this early in the process," he said. "I've met with all of the coaches. I've been up there numerous times. I have a really good relationship with those guys."

Stelter said he is taking his time with the recruiting process. He has no decision timeline.

"When I know it's the right time, when I know it's the school that feels right, I'll commit," he said. "Whenever that is, I'll do it.

"I want to stay somewhat close to home. I don't want to go super far away. How the coaching staff operates and interacts with the players is important. I'm looking for a family atmosphere. Academics, too, that's a big part."

Stelter is considering a Kinesiology major in college. He is a good all-around athlete who plays basketball and participates in the field events for Owatonna (MN) Senior High.

"I have a really high motor," Stelter said. "I'm always playing as hard as I can every single play. I'm a good combination of size and speed and strength."
