Iowa Offers Izzo

Ryan Izzo is a big tight end that can block and get down field to catch passes. He fits into the Iowa system and recently received a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes. He speaks about it in this story.

You could say that Ryan Izzo's first conversation with Iowa went real well. New assistant coach Chris White presented the New Jersey tight end with a scholarship offer.

"My coach (at Pope John XXIII) has been talking with them," the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Izzo said. "He sent them my film. They felt that I fit into their offense as a tight end that can block or go out and make plays."

Izzo, who visited Boston College on Wednesday, reports scholarship offers from Rutgers, Temple, Virginia Tech, UMass and Northern Illinois.

"I really don't have a (decision) timeline," Izzo said. "Depending on the amount of offers I get, I'd like to get down to a Top 3 or a Top 5 before my senior year. If it's clear and I know where I want to go, I'll make a final decision before my senior year. If not, it will be later on down the line."

Izzo said he connected with White during their phone conversation. He looked forward to expanding the relationship.

"He said he was going to add me on Facebook so we could talk more there and get to know each other," Izzo said.

Of the schools that have offered him a scholarship, Iowa is situated farthest from his New Jersey home.

"Distance doesn't really matter to me," Izzo said. "If my family is comfortable with where I'm gong, I'm fine with it. If I feel comfortable with the school and the people and the offense, I'll go anywhere in the country."

Izzo plans to get a look at Iowa in the near future.

"At the latest, I'm going to try to get out to Iowa sometime in June," he said. "I'm going to talk to Coach White soon so there's a chance I could get out there for spring practice. I'm just going to try to find out what's the best time for both of us."
