Hawks Offer Holden

Iowa reached back east to offer a scholarship on Tuesday. Dematha DE Deonte Holden talks about his Big Ten opportunity in this recruiting update.

Deonte Holden seeks opportunity. He believes he would have that at Iowa.

"I know that they're only looking to bring in two defensives end in my class and they didn't bring in any defensive ends in the class of 2013," Holden said. "So that makes me really look into the school."

The Hawkeyes determined that Holden is a defensive end they'd like to sign in February. They offered the Dematha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) pass rusher a scholarship on Tuesday.

"I think Iowa is a great school," he said. "I can really see myself playing big-time ball there."

Eric Johnson is leading Iowa's recruitment of Holden.

"They've been recruiting me every since they saw me work out earlier during the school year," Holden said

Holden is friends with Nico Law, a junior safety with the Hawkeyes who also calls Maryland home.

"As long as I'm still able to see my family, I'm fine with the distance," Holden said of Iowa.

Holden also reports scholarship offers from Cincinnati, East Carolina, Temple, Toledo and UNC Charlotte. He said he is hearing consistently from Old Dominion, Miami, Duke, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Missouri and West Virginia.

"I hear a lot from N.C. State," he said. "Hopefully that offer comes soon."

Holden is considering Architecture, Computer Science and Business Management as possible college majors. He'd like to commit to a school before his senior season but may wait until signing day if that does not happen.

Holden plans to visit Iowa on June 21st. He has no other trips scheduled as of now.
