Iowa Evaluating Bartley

Decatur (IL) Point Guard Marcus Bartley visited Iowa in November. The Hawkeyes continue to evaluate him as his recruitment heats up.

Iowa is searching for a point guard in the Class of 2014. Standout floor leaders like Tyus Jones, Dominique Collier, Darrell Davis, Lourawls Nairn and Tyler Ulis hold Hawkeye offers. Coaches are scouting plenty of others at the position.

Iowa saw Decatur (IL) MacArthur High's Marcus Bartley last weekend. He visited Iowa City in November.

"I've talked to Coach (Kirk) Speraw a little bit," the 6-foot-3, 175-pounder said. "He said they like my skills and length at the point guard position and that they would watch me this spring and summer."

Bartley's recruitment has heated up. Northwestern and Oklahoma State offered him scholarships last week. He already held opportunities from Illinois State and Southern Illinois, among others.

"I haven't set a timetable for my decision but I want to look at all my options and not rush anything," Bartley said.

That gives Iowa a chance to continue evaluating the point guard. Bartley and his Peoria Irish AAU teammates will participate in the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza in Minneapolis this weekend.

"I'm definitely interested in the program," Bartley said of Iowa. "It fits my playing style and has great coaches. The facilities are top notch; really great facilities and home court."

Bartley, who wants to major in business in college, plans to start visiting schools in the near future. He has an idea of what he wants from a school and program.

"The most important things are academics and just having a great relationship with the coaching staff," Bartley said. "I want to comfortable and surrounded by great people."
