Mankato (MN) West quarterback Ryan Schlichte visited Iowa this past weekend for their opener against Northern Illinois.
Schlichte had already been to Iowa two previous times for a spring practice and then again for a camp over the summer. The 2015 signal caller liked what he saw from the Hawkeyes.
"It was the first game I've been able to experience at Iowa," said Schlichte. "I really enjoyed it. It was a crazy atmosphere with all the fans showing their support and all the energy that was in the stadium."
"The loss didn't hinder my time there at all," he added. "You always want the team you're visiting to win but Northern Illinois is a good team and they went to the Orange Bowl last year."
Schlichte shared why he is very interested in the Iowa program.
"They are close to home," he noted. "They showed a very early interest in me which I appreciated. I like what they have going on there and their staff is really stable. Their fan base really sticks out to me and that was clear during the game on Saturday."
The Minnesota native discussed what the Hawkeyes' coaching staff has told them so far about a possible scholarship offer.
"I think they may offer if I do well enough this season," he pointed out. "I had a great sophomore season and that is why I ended up camping there. They showed me a lot of interest early on and wanted to see me in person. It is definitely a possibility and gives me motivation to keep working harder."
"They like my arm strength and knowledge of the game," he continued. "I play in a spread offense and they seemed to like that as well."
Schlichte has begun to hear from two other programs in North Carolina and Vanderbilt.
His next visit will be to Iowa State to see the Cyclones host the Hawkeyes. It will be Schlichte's third visit to Iowa State as well.
