Riley LaChance on Iowa Visit

Wisconsin Point Guard Riley LaChance wrapped up his official visit to Iowa on Saturday morning. He talked about the stop and what's next in his process in this audio interview with Hawkeye Insider.

Q: So, what did you think of the visit overall?

RL: It was good. I really liked the coaching staff and the players as well. They showed great hospitality. I had a lot of fun hanging out with the guys and being around the coaching staff. It was pretty cool. Obviously, the facilities at Carver-Hawkeye (Arena) are second to none. So, I had a really good time.

Q: What did Coach McCaffery talk to you about in terms of why he wants you to come to Iowa?

RL: He thinks that I bring to the table something that they need. He thinks that I fit very, very well in that system. They play my style. They play up-tempo. They run a lot of really, really good offense, both in transition and they run a lot of really, really good sets as well. I just think I fit very well, bot offensively and defensively.

Q: Who was your host?

RL: Mike Gesell.

Q: What did you guys get along?

RL: Good. Good. He's a really good dude. I really liked him.

Q: Did you get to see any of the academic side of things, and if so, what did you think there?

RL: Yeah. I met with the academic coordinator. I sat in a class with Mike Gesell. It was good to see that sort of stuff.

Q: Do you know what you want to major in?

RL: Probably something in the business field.

Q: How are you finding the recruiting process? It seems like it started to pick up steam this summer and hasn't stopped.

RL: Yeah, absolutely, it's been pretty crazy. It started off before the summer, before July, where there wasn't a whole lot on the table. Then after July, it really, really picked up. Every time I thought it was about to stop, it got more crazy. Some more schools came into play. So, it's been crazy but it's been a phenomenal experience. I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm really just trying to enjoy the whole process.

Q: I heard some speculation that Indiana might be getting involved with you? Have you heard from them?

RL: Ah, yeah, they showed up at an open gym last week but that's not happening anymore.

Q: So, they've moved on, you've moved on?

RL: Correct.

Q: In terms of where you're at in the process, what's the next step for you?

RL: I'll probably be making a decision next week.

Q: Do you have a group of schools that you're picking from?

RL: Iowa, Minnesota, Creighton and Vanderbilt.

Q: Are those four schools equal in your mind right now?

RL: Yup.

Q: What will separate the school that you choose?

RL: I think style of play; how I fit with the coaching staff; how competitive they're going to be. I want to go to a team that's going to be very competitive and try to win championships.

Q: You're dad mentioned to me that you wanted to stay relatively close to home. Vanderbilt is the only school in your final four that's some distance from you. Is Nashville close enough?

RL: It is, yeah.
