Williams Visits Iowa

Christian Williams offers up the kind of versatility Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery looks for in a player. The 2015 guard from Illinois dropped in on the Hawkeyes last weekend and talked with Hawkeye Insider about his visit.

The recruitment of Christian Williams has moved along at a steady pace. The Class of 2015 shooting guard took another step in that process with an official visit to Iowa last weekend.

"I was able to go to the football game until halftime," the 6-foot-5, 180-pound junior said. "I loved the support by the fans. I saw different facilities and then I got to watch practice."

Williams pictured himself fitting into the Hawkeye system while viewing the workout.

"They like to get up and down the floor the whole game," he said. "I believe that fits my game perfectly because I am good at making plays in transition."

Williams runs with Decatur (IL) St. Theresa during the school year and the Peoria Irish on the AAU circuit. He reports scholarship offers from Illinois State, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Bradley and Green Bay and interest from Illinois, Xavier, Toledo, Loyola, Dayton, Butler and Tennessee, among others.

"I just want to find the best place I fit in well," said WIlliams, who has no timeline for a commitment.

Williams has unofficially visited Illinois State, SIU Edwardsville, Bradley and Northern Illinois. Iowa represented his first trip to a Big Ten school.

"I think that the coaching staff is great and that the school is just good overall," Williams said.

WIlliams spent time with Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery during his visit.

"Coach talked about what he expected of his players, and how I could help and what I was good at," Williams said. "He said I am good at shooting, dribbling and seeing the floor well. He likes that I am able to play more than one position."

Williams said he does not have any other visits scheduled at this time.
