Edwards Makes Trip To Iowa

2015 Downers Grove (IL) North tight end David Edwards has not yet received an offer from the Hawkeyes yet but has family members that hope he plays for Iowa.

2015 Downers Grove (IL) North athlete David Edwards has three offers so far from Illinois, Indiana, and Vanderbilt.

Indiana and Vanderbilt have offered Edwards as a tight end while Illinois has offered him as a quarterback. Wisconsin and Iowa have also expressed interest in Edwards and both like him at the tight end position.

Edwards was in Iowa City this past weekend to see the Hawkeyes come out victorious against Michigan. He talked about the experience.

"I went up with my father and one of my coaches," said Edwards. "I did not know it was going to be the coldest game in Kinnick Stadium history. I was pretty cold. It was still a good time, though."

"I got a look at what the new facilities are going to look like when they are done," he continued. "They're going to be awesome. It's a program that is all about football. It's all strictly football. I love their style of offense in the way that it is a two tight end formation and all about pounding it down the defense's throat."

Edwards added more glowing remarks about the school.

"It's a blue-collar program," he said of Iowa. "There's no mistaking what they want to do. They want to be tougher than the other team and be physical. I like that attitude and demeanor."

The four-star prospect spoke about specific players that stood out to him while watching the Iowa win.

"I was impressed with their left tackle," Edwards pointed out. "Michigan has Taylor Lewan and a really good defense but Iowa's left tackle was real impressive though. I was also impressed with their running back."

"A lot of my family went to Iowa and knows a lot about the program and the team," he added. "They told me that the running back actually went to Air Force and then came back and walked on at Iowa. He's doing really well and I'm impressed with him."

Edwards responded to being asked if his family connections to Iowa would have any impact on his college decision.

"I don't know," he admitted. "I think that my family on my dad's side wants me to go to Iowa. I really just want to take my time with it. If I feel like Iowa is the right fit for me, then that's the school I will pick. I'll definitely be keeping Iowa in my top schools."

The Hawkeyes have yet to offer Edwards but he's been assured to not worry at this time.

"When they were taking me around on the tour they told me to just be patient," mentioned Edwards. "The time in between the regular season and the bowl game is when they will be looking at my film and evaluating if they want to offer. He just stressed that it would be in my best interest to be patient."

"It's definitely an offer I hope to receive."

Other schools have inquired on Edwards and are beginning to express interest.

"I really like Big Ten schools like Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, and Iowa," he admitted. "I also like Vanderbilt. I'm open to any school that gives me an offer and really wants me to attend their school."

Edwards is in no rush to make a college decision but said it was important to him to have it finalized before his senior season begins.
