Cooksey Heating Up

Georgia linebacker Tyler Cooksey is forming opinions on colleges as he visits junior days at various schools. One place he already thinks highly of is Iowa, who visited his school.

Iowa dipped into Georgia during the 2014 recruiting cycle. While the Hawkeyes came away empty handed in a competitive region, they've continued pushing forward there.

Tyler Cooksey hails from the Peach State. The Atlanta area linebacker is on Iowa's board.

"I talked to Coach (LeVar) Woods when he was at my school," Cooksey said. "He visited last semester right after Thanksgiving break. I know that Iowa is a great school with great football. And, it's cold there."

Cooksey laughs when talking about Iowa's climate. He's open to playing anywhere in the country.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Cooksey operates at inside linebacker within the 3-4 alignment of Greater Atlanta Christian High's defense. He reports running the 40-yard dash in the 4.6-4.7-second range.

"(Woods) talked about how much he likes me," Cooksey said. "He likes the way I play and my body type. He said there's a lot of potential."

Cooksey reports scholarship offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Northwestern and NC State. He's expected at Tech's and North Carolina's junior days this week after being at BC's this past weekend. He plans to see spring practices at Northwestern, Duke and N.C. State.

"I really enjoyed Boston College; beautiful campus and great people," Cooksey said. "Georgia Tech has always been a dream to play at. I am really excited about seeing Northwestern."

Cooksey said he is considering college majors in business or biomedical engineering.

"I would like to make my decision before I start my senior season," he said. "That isn't set in stone, though. It just depends on what I feel about the schools."
