The Hawks will be focusing on finding a big back this year that could possibly come in and play sometime at FB next year. With Jeremy Allen and Robbie Crockett graduating, the spot will be wide open. A player such as David Richards, is one of the premier big backs in the nation that could contribute as a true freshman. Richards already squats an impressive 550 lbs. and benches 365 lbs.
"Right now my top schools are Iowa, Missouri, Notre Dame, Colorado, Nebraska, UCLA, Michigan State, Lousiville, and Tennessee" said Richards. "Michigan State and UCLA would probably be my two favorites at this time, as UCLA is the only school I've set an official visit (first weekend in December) so far."
"I always liked Tennessee, but then I took a harder look at their depth charts after I committed. I want playing time, and I likely wouldn't get that many carries my first few years at Tennessee."
"I like how Iowa uses big backs. I know a lot about Jeremy Allen, and I could come in and play in his place because he is graduating. I'd be willing to play fullback if I get the right amount of carries."
"I'm a smashmouth north-south type runner, but I can use my speed very well. I got great hands, but the best thing about my running style is I have a defensive mentality. I play some linebacker so I'm use to hitting people, and quite often I like to hit people when I'm running the ball before they like to hit me."
Richards carries the books as well, with a 2.8 GPA and 19 ACT score. He definitely likes contact and is PHYSICAL. Watching Iowa do a lot of single back formations this year with Jeremy Allen should help really open David Richard's eyes. This is another example of national prospect that will be watching Iowa closely for marked improvement.
