Brett Waechter returned to Iowa City Sunday to continue building a relationship with the Iowa coaches. Each member of the staff with whom he spoke delivered a similar message to the talented in-state junior.
"They all said they're very interested in me," Waechter said. "They like my athleticism and really want me to come down for a camp this summer."
Iowa is recruiting the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High standout as an offensive tackle, he said. He also excels at defensive end and some scouts see him lining up there in college.
Waechter attended Iowa's first junior day back in January. He's been in consistent contact with the Hawkeyes and that figures to increase going forward.
"I'm gonna call (offensive line coach) Brian Ferentz about once a week," Waechter said. "I get mail every now and again. I also talk to Coach (LeVar) Woods and Coach Brian Ferentz on Twitter and Facebook sometimes."
Waechter attended Nebraska's junior day and is considering a similar event at Iowa State this coming weekend. He said he would likely camp at Iowa, Nebraska, Iowa State, South Dakota and North Dakota State this summer. He's in no rush to find a school.
"A little bit of everything will go into my decision," Waechter said. "I want to be an engineer. All of the schools that have looked at me have at least some sort of engineering program."
Iowa offers a very well respected engineering college.
"They are interested in me," Waechter said of the Hawkeyes. "I like it there. I am excited to see their new facilities this summer."
