The Iowa football team held a open spring practice in West Des Moines on Saturday. Hawkeye Insider was there and brings you coverage from the sunny afternoon in Central Iowa.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - For the second year in a row, Iowa saved some of its fans gas money and time. The Hawkeyes traveled a few hours west to Valley High Stadium for a spring practice on Saturday.

"Practice today was just OK," Coach Kirk Ferentz said. "There were some good things going on out there and some things that were encouraging, but there were a lot of things today that would really get us beat in the fall. That's mart of spring ball but we probably had more negative-type plays today than we had in any five days combined. So, we'll have some coaching to do and some correcting to do next week for sure."

Hawkeye Insider made the trip on Saturday as well. You can read some of our news, notes and observations here

We'll continue to post content from our trip west throughout the weekend, so please check back for plenty more.
