Corbett Checks Out Iowa

Austin Corbett left Iowa City without the scholarship offer he desired. Still, the Texas linebacker felt strongly about his Hawkeye visit and where he stands with the coaches there.

Austin Corbett trekked all the way from Texas to Iowa this weekend for a campus visit. The linebacker hoped he would receive a scholarship offer. That didn't happen.

Corbett remained positive about his prospects of being a Hawkeye, however.

"Im very confident they will offer. All of the coaches were more than excited to see me and I spent over 30 minutes talking to the head coach (Kirk Ferentz). He was thrilled I was up there," he said.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Corbett lines up for Plano (TX) East Senior High. He reports scholarship offers from Air Force, Cornell, Harvard, Louisiana-Monroe, Navy, Nevada, New Mexico, SMU and Texas-San Antonio. He said he's waiting to hear back from Stanford, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Rutgers and Oklahoma State.

"All these schools are on the edge of offering," he said

Corbett said he connected with the coaches on his Iowa visit.

"They're very interactive and caring. They talked about how great it was at Iowa, how great it will be at Iowa and they hoped I could be a future Hawkeye," he said.

Corbett plans to have his decision made by the end of the summer. Joining the historically strong linebacker position at Iowa could be where he ends up.

"I know they always produce great linebackers and I want to be the next one," he said.
