There was a lot of excitement in Iowa City this past week. That was due to the three in-state commitments that happened in three straight days. It was a domanio effect, and now the staff hopes to have it continue with a good start into the season.
The first commitment was OL Chris Felder, rated in the top200 by many recruiting anyalsts and one of the top ten offensive tackles by many. Chris (6'6 290) had been rumored as a strong lean to Iowa for a long time, but his commitment this early in the process striked many as somewhat of a surprise.
"I just wanted to get rid of the distractions for my team and I before the season started," stated Chris. "I talked it over with my parents, and I really couldn't figure out any reason to wait, as I've known I was going to Iowa for a long time now. Also, now I can help the recruiting class as I know two guys have already committed after me."
"I'll probably red-shirt my first year so I can sit back and learn from the guys ahead of me. I really believe we'll make a bowl game every year I'm there, and I can't wait to run out in front of 70,000 fans. Nobody beats Hawk fans."
The other two commitments, WR Calvin Davis (6'1 175) and TE/DE Warren McDuffie (6'7 240), are players with a tremendous amount of potential. Many schools are going to regret not giving Calvin the attention he deserved just because he didn't play football his junior year. He is easily the fastest player in Iowa and may break some of Tim Dwight's track records this year at City High. Warren has great athleticism, but will need to become more a physical football player out on the field.
This is a great start to the recruiting class! Now the staff will have to see if they can add OL Jon Cochran, WDM Valley. Iowa State is going to pose a challenge because of their strong connections with Cochran's family. It should be interesting!!!!!
