Iowa Checks in with Christian

Dominic Christian is putting together a strong senior season at Hales Franciscan High. It's caught the attention of college scouts. Iowa checked in on the Chicago athlete this week and he liked what he heard from the Hawkeyes.

Iowa is zeroed in on a couple of defensive backs in the Class of 2015. Florida's Jonathan Crawford and Marquise Doherty of Kansas City appear to reside at the top of the recruiting board.

As time goes on and senior film is evaluated, other players open the eyes of the coaches. Chicago's Dominic Christian is an impressive athlete who's entered the picture.

Hawkeye recruiting coordinator Seth Wallace visited Christian at his Hales Franciscan High School on Tuesday.

"He told me that they saw my film, were impressed and wanted to see me in person to make sure my height and weight were legit. He said they like me at DB and heard I'm a great kid," the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Christian said.

"It seems like they're really interested and the recruiting will start get more serious after they get their full evaluation on me."

Christian, who plays quarterback for Hales, reports scholarship offers from Nevada, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Ball State, Illinois State, Colgate and Fordham. He said he's also hearing from Syracuse, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Connecticut and Iowa State.

Christian is friends with DePaul Prep defensive lineman Raequan Williams, who's visited Iowa several times and has the Hawkeyes in his Top 5.

"I know Iowa always has a solid team," Christian said. "They can compete with anybody. I think Iowa could be a good fit. It's not too far away from home so my family could see me play. It's a good university overall."

Christian has not visited Iowa yet but plans to do so after the season.
