IOWA CITY, Iowa - Wisconsin descended on Kinnick Stadium Saturday as a double-digit favorite. The heavily-favored Badgers escaped with a hard-fought, 26-24 victory.
"To come in here and win by two is a tremendous feat for these kids," Coach Gary Andersen said. "We found a way to get it done. Winning close games is maybe not so good for the coaches' health, but it's good for the team to get in that situation and battle and fight.
"I never doubted that they were going to be there. You always think you're going to win. Absolutely. But their minds were right, they kept on plugging and made enough plays."
Running back Melvin Gordon and his offensive line continued their assault on opposing defenses. The junior rushed for 200 yards and a pair of scores on 31 carries. He added four catches for 64 yards.
"It was a physical game (Saturday) but I knew it would be," Gordon said. "But you can't worry about the hits. You just have to keep driving, keep going, get up even when you get stung and make something happen for your team."
