Hawkeyes to Face Tennessee in Jacksonville

The Iowa football team learned Sunday that it would be closing out its 2014 season against Tennessee in Jacksonville on Jan. 2.

IOWA CITY, Iowa - It was announced by the TaxSlayer Bowl Sunday that the Iowa football team accepted an invitation to play in its postseason contest Jan. 2 in Jacksonville. The event's committee pitted Tennessee of the SEC against the Hawkeyes.

Iowa comes into the game at 7-5. The Volunteers are 6-6. The TaxSlayer Bowl is formerly the Gator Bowl, where the Hawkeyes last played in 1983.

Iowa defeated Tennessee in the 1982 Peach Bowl, 55-17. The only other meeting between the two program occurred in the 1987 Kickoff Classic played in New Jersey and won by the Vols, 23-22.
