Iowa Hawkeyes Football Scrimmage: Full Video

Scout has video of the full Iowa Hawkeyes' football scrimmage from Saturday, with some analysis and standouts on the day.

Scout was in Kinnick Stadium for Kids' Day with the Iowa Hawkeyes football program. The best part of the day was the scrimmage action during the open practice. The entire action consisted of first team against first team, second team against second team, and third team against team battles.

Amongst the first team battles, standouts on the defensive side of the ball were linemen Drew Ott, Nate Meier and Jaleel Johnson, linebacker Bo Bower, and defensive backs Greg Mabin and Desmond King.

When re-watching the tape on the scrimmage multiple times, it becomes increasingly evident that Bo Bower had a huge day. King locked down Tevaun Smith the entire practice as well, and Drew Ott was a handful for new left tackle Boone Myers to handle.

Offensively on the first team, Derrick Mitchell was effective at running back. He won't normally run with the ones, and only did on Saturday as they kept LeShun Daniels and Jordan Canzeri limited, but he had a very good day. It went unnoticed initially but receiver Matt VandeBerg was solid at receiver, and Tevaun Smith was used to stretch the defense, which he did. He and Beathard took a couple shots down the field but couldn't connect. Receivers Jerminic Smith and Jay Scheel were also effective as was tight end George Kittle.

The second unit defense was lead by cornerback Sean Draper who had a pick-six on the day. Linebacker Aaron Mends also made a few nice plays. Angelo Garbutt and Jack Hockaday are two other linebackers that could see the field and avoid a redshirt year.

Video of the full scrimmage is shown above.
