Iowa's Offense Assesses Illinois State

Iowa offensive players assess Illinois State, this Saturday's opponent.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are preparing for their season opener against Illinois State, a game that is now only four days away. Kirk Ferentz and company began focusing their attention on the Redbirds last Thursday according to the head coach of the Hawkeyes.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz and the players met with the media today, and they all complimented their first opponent, the defending national runner-ups of the FCS. With North Dakota State falling, Illinois State may be in the discussion for the top spot overall in the polls.

The Hawkeyes are aware, both offensively and defensively.

Running backs LeShun Daniels and Jordan Canzeri, tight end Henry Krieger Coble, and center Austin Blythe all discussed the Redbird defense, who brings back a lot of experience up front.

Illinois State has a pair of elite pass rushers in Teddy Corwin and David Perkins. Perkins was a linebacker at Ohio State before departing for the Redbird program. They also return two starting linebackers in Alex Donnelly and Pat Meehan. You can read up on more about Illinois State HERE

A concern for Illinois State will be the back level of their defense. Unlike Iowa, they have little experience in their secondary. Their defensive backs are all embarking on their first full season as starters.

The Iowa Hawkeyes contingent discusses the challenges they'll face against the stout front seven for Illinois State, and they also share their thougths on the inexperienced Redbird secondary and if it's an area they can exploit with a downfield passing attack in the video above.
