HOW DO YOU SEE IOWA MANAGING THE RUNNING BACK ROTATION WITH UP TO FOUR GUYS WHO HAVE PROVEN TO BE EFFECTIVE?
DY: It just depends on who's available. If all four are available I would imagine that they'd roll with LeShun Daniels and Jordan Canzeri and ride the hot hand out of that duo. They won the jobs for a reason and are more trustworthy. If they chose to use a third I think it would be Akrum Wadley. For Maryland, I don't think Canzeri will be available. I could see Daniels be healthy enough to play but they probably ease him back in meaning that Wadley would get the majority of the carries and be supplemented by Derrick Mitchell and Daniels.
HOW EMBARRASSED ARE YOU THAT YOU PICKED NORTHWESTERN BY 7-10?
DY: I'm not embarassed at all. I can't get them all right (haha). I was definitely not alone in the pick and nobody could have predicted that Akrum Wadley would rush for over 200 yards and four touchdowns. Injuries usually catch up but Iowa hasn't let them.
CAN YOU GET ANY INFORMATION ON HOW THE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING PROGRAM HAS CHANGED OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS?
DY: I don't think it has changed at all from what they have said the entire year. It's the same thing they've always done. They have more tools, resources, and space at their exposal now with the new complex. They have one of the biggest weight rooms in the nation and that allows them to be more creative in their workouts and it gives them a lot of convenience as well.
HOW DO YOU SEE C.J.'S PHYSICAL CONDITION IN TWO WEEKS? HOW CLOSE TO 100 PERCENT DO YOU SEE HIM AND WILL HE BE ABLE TO RUN THE ENTIRE OFFENSE?
DY: Saturday's game probably didn't help any as everyone saw how gingerly he walked off the field after his last play. He'll probably feel a little bit better since he'll be off his feet for a week and most likely will be very limited in practice leading up to the Maryland game. He'll be more than the 50 percent he was probably at on Saturday against Northwestern but how much is too tough to predict. The only thing that can help is time but is there enough? It'll be tough for him to get to 100 percent until after the season.
WHO WOULD YOU START AT RUNNING BACK AGAINST MARYLAND?
DY: I would start Akrum Wadley. Jordan Canzeri most likely will not be available. LeShun Daniels may be but if he is I would ease him back in and see if he can get that burst back.
CUBS OR METS? ROYALS OR BLUE JAYS? WORLD SERIES? FAVORITE SPORT? FAVORITE NFL TEAM? FAVORITE PLAYER IN ANY SPORT?
DY: Before the series I had the Cubs and Royals. I felt good about the Royals but they're getting absolutely thumped by Toronto right now. It'll be interesting to see if the Cubs can change their fortunes at Wrigley Field.
DY: I think the Royals win the World Series. My favorite sport to play is baseball but to watch is football. My favorite NFL team is the Green Bay Packers. My favorite player in any sport would be down to Joey Votto, Carlos Correa, Robinson Cano, Josh Donaldson, Lorenzo Cain, Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, and Kyle Schwarber in baseball. It was always Derek Jeter and Barry Larkin before that. I know that's a lot but I really do love baseball. In football I love Aaron Rodgers, B.J. Raji, Aaron Donald, Luke Kuechly, Earl Thomas, Larry Fitzgerald, Keenan Allen, Charles Woodson, Peyton Manning, and Aqib Talib.
BRING A PAST HAWKEYE PLAYER AND PUT HIM ON THIS YEAR'S TEAM. WHO IS IT?
DY: To be honest I immediately thought to just bring back a healthy Drew Ott. Outside of that, this defense is terrific and the strength of the team so I wouldn't look to boost that side of the ball. I'd want to improve more on offense. Assuming I get both my offensive tackles back healthy, I leave the offensive line alone. They've been great. I have four running backs that can affect the game so I'm fine there. I love what Beathard gives me at quarterback. I'd look to bring back one of my great tight ends or another prolific wideout. I could go with a consistent playmaker like Marvin McNutt or look for more speed with Tim Dwight. My tight end would be Dallas Clark. I'd roll with one of the three and if pressed to make a decision, give me McNutt. He's just as consistent and reliable as Matt VandeBerg but with the ability to make the big play as well.
WHICH IOWA PLAYER OR COACH DO YOU FEEL HAS HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT DESPITE A GENERAL LACK OF RECOGNITION?
DY: I'll preface this by saying the ones I consider getting all the recognition are Beathard, all the running backs, VandeBerg and Tevaun Smith, Drew Ott, and Desmond King. The three that stand out to me that aren't getting the recognition they deserve would be "The Three J's" in Jordan Walsh, Jaleel Johnson, and Josey Jewell. Walsh has been the standout on a very good offensive line, Jaleel is the one wreaking havoc on the inside, and Jewell has been one of the best linebackers in the conference during Big Ten play.
AT WHICH HOTEL IN PASADENA WILL THE HAWKS BE STAYING?
DY: I don't know any hotels in Pasadena but in another three weeks I might have to do some exploring.
WHO WAS STARTING ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE AT THE END OF THE NORTHWESTERN GAME? THERE WAS A GIGANTIC MAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE THAT SEEMED TO BE LOOKING TO UNLOAD ON SOMEONE.
DY: I'm not sure I caught this as I may have been on my way down to the field level from the press box. I didn't catch any of the reserves that entered the game.
HOW MUCH OF THE RUN OFFENSE AND PASS OFFENSE IS THE STAFF COMFORTABLE WITH TYLER WIEGERS RUNNING?
DY: I'm not sure that they really know since he probably hasn't taken 20 snaps yet but I don't imagine it being a whole lot. They'd probably feel it out as the game went on.
WHO WOULD BE THE BACKUP TO WIEGERS IF C.J. CAN'T PLAY?
Kirk Ferentz has been reluctant to admit who it would be when asked in press conferences lately but I think it would be Ryan Boyle. He's more of a natural at the position while Drew Cook is more of a project.
WILL JORDAN CANZERI BE BACK BY THE MARYLAND GAME?
I doubt it. It's a high ankle sprain and that usually takes at least four weeks to heal.
