The Hawkeyes moved to 9-0 on the season Saturday when they knocked off Indiana 35-27. Their perfect record was good enough to be ranked #9 last week in the season's first playoff poll. After another week of upsets and top teams going down, Iowa now checks in at number 5 in the playoff poll. They were able to jump ahead of Michigan State, who lost to Nebraska, and TCU, who lost to Oklahoma State. They also jumped LSU, who lost to Alabama, and Baylor who stayed pat with a win over Kansas State.
The teams ahead of Iowa are Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. Two of those teams already have a loss, the Crimson Tide and Fighting Irish. Many of those teams do still have work to do, though. Many tough games remain as conference titles will be up for grabs.
Iowa may be glancing at the national recognition and attention a little now but they are not letting it affect their preparation or performance. Their unblemished slate speaks to that.
The Hawkeyes have adopted many mantras this year, with two standing above the rest in 'one game at a time' and 'next man in'. Those mottos have served them well this year as they continue to march through their schedule unscathed and overcome the adversity of all the injuries that they have suffered.
They'll look to continue that battle and find more success when they host the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday in a trophy game for 'Floyd'. It'll be a night game in Kinnick Stadium that also consists of alternate uniforms and a 'blackout'.
