Ankeny's McCracken Verbals to Hawkeyes

(*This is an HTO TheInsiders Club FREE Preview story*)
Coach Ferentz and company received their seventh known verbal committment of the Class of 2004 on Saturday when Ankeny HS DE/TE Grant McCracken pledged to play for the Hawkeyes. Josh Clark spoke with Grant this weekend and has the details ...

Ankeny's Grant McCracken has long been a Notre Dame fan -- especially after attending ND's summer camp two years ago. However, after the temptation passed to wait this fall for an Irish offer, McCracken finally knew where he wanted to call home.

"I verbally committed to Iowa yesterday when I took a visit," Grant said. "I always knew I wanted my decision out of the way by the start of my season, and everything was just right with Iowa."

In fact, Grant was accompanied by his parents, all his grandparents, sister, girlfriend, aunt and uncle, and one of his aunts from Minnesota. Obviously, Grant has good family support behind him.

"It was nice to have all my family there with me. We asked Coach Ferentz if anyone had done that before, and he said it was one of the bigger showings he's seen. He just shook my hand after I committed and let me know how happy he was to have me as a Hawkeye."

McCracken also received strong interest from Iowa State and Kansas State.
