Iowa Guard Peter Jok is Big Ten Player of the Week

Iowa guard Peter Jok is awarded Big Ten Player of the Week for his performance against Michigan State and Michigan.

Mike Gesell was named the Big Ten Player of the Week last week and the honors will stay in Iowa City for another seven days. Today it was announced by the Big Ten office that the conference's player of the week is Hawkeye guard Peter Jok.

Iowa won both contests this week, 76-59 on the road against Michigan State, and 82-71 at home against Michigan. Those are noteworthy wins and they were lead by scoring of Jok.

Jok scored 23 points in 31 minutes against the Spartans at the Breslin Center. He also shot 3-5 from three-point land. Against the Wolverines inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Jok went to work again. He tallied 16 points in 28 minutes against Michigan but was hot from beyond the arc again, shooting 4-6 .

One of the more positive signs of the year for Iowa hasn't exactly been his offensive production. Everyone knew he had the ability to score at a very high clip and knock down outside shots with regularity but it was his defense that needed to come a long way. It certainly has. Jok had to defend MSU's Denzel Valentine at times in East Lansing and held up well which not many people would have believed that to be the case before the season began. He is on his way to becoming a complete player.

Jok is this week's Big Ten Player of the Week, and deservedly so. Iowa will resume play on Thursday when they play at Rutgers on ESPNU at 6:00 p.m. CST.
