Ask D: Iowa Mailbag January 29

Derek Young of Hawkeye Insider answers your Iowa questions for the week.

ANY NOAH FANT NEWS?

Hawkeye. No more viists. He'll sign on Feburary 3.

WHO ARE THE TOP 2017 TARGETS FOR FOOTBALL?

Safety Djimon Colbert from the Kansas City area is one and a four-star prospect. They should land offensive tacke Mark Kallenberger out of Bettendorf soon. They're in the mix for four-star running back Eno Benjamin out of Texas. Wideout Jaevon McQuitty of Missouri will be a fight between the Hawkeyes, Nebraska, and others. A lot more still left to play out when they focus more on this group.

WHICH TRUE FRESHMEN NEXT YEAR HAVE A GOOD SHOT AT PLAYING?

True freshmen don't play that much at Iowa and the ones that do are usually out of necessity or they'll need them the following year. Because of that, none of the offensive linemen, linebackers, running backs, or quarterbacks should be considered. Defensive line could be the spot and that would center on Cedrick Lattimore. One of the tight ends could. Possibly Amani Hooker as well.

WILL THERE BE ANY MORE ADJUSTMENTS OF IOWA'S CURRENT COMMITS/TARGETS FOR 2016?

Rankings have just finished. The last new batch bumped up Cedrick Lattimore and Nate Stanley into the top 300.

ANY EARLY THOUGHTS ON THE RANKING OF IOWA'S 2017 COMMITS?

Rankings for the 2017 class have not been extended too much yet. Epenesa is the top defensive end in the country and will be in the discussion for five-star status. Tristan Wirfs is a four-star prospect and already in the Scout 300. Coons, Harris, and Kirkpatrick have yet to be rated but all should be in the three-star range.

ANY WORD ON DREW OTT'S STATUS?

Nothing yet, here. I still find it unlikely since he played in six different games.

WHO ARE SOME GUYS THAT YOU THINK IOWA WILL 'SHOCK THE OWRLD' AND GET IN 2017?

I think they'll land Djimon Colbert and that will shock people because it could happen in the Spring and be their third four-star commit of the class already. They'll also be contenders for four-star running back Eno Benjamin and four-star wideout Jaevon McQuitty.
