Iowa NSD Profile: OG/OC Spencer Williams

Profiling and breaking down the newest signee, offensive lineman Spencer Williams.

HOMETOWN: Cedar Falls, Iowa (Cedar Falls HS)
POSITION: Offensive Guard/Center
RANKING: Three-Star, #5 Player in Iowa, #20 OG in Midwest, #84 OG in Country
SIZE: 6-3/285

RECRUITING STORY: His recruitment did not jump out to a quick start and after sitting on a few offers for a while, he jumped at the opportunity given to him by P.J. Fleck and Western Michigan. But once the Iowa came in June, it was too much to pass up. It did not take long for him to flip from the MAC championship contender to the Hawkeyes. He's a perfect fit for what Iowa wants in a lineman.

EVALUATION: Williams is a very sound, tough lineman who plays with good effort. He blocks to the whistle, finishes his blocks, and consistently runs his feet and moves defenders. Not a long kid, but his stocky build gives him a natural leverage advantage which he uses to the fullest. Williams plays with good balance and with his feet underneath him. He has good pass protection technique. He can still improve quickness and overall agility. - Scout Midwest Recruiting Anallyst Allen Trieu

This is a prospect that epitomizes nastiness and toughness. I think there is no question that he'll be an in-state kid that winds up in the starting lineup at some point. He's the type that makes the most of his opportunity and defeats the challenges ahead of him regardless of what his thrown at him. For a lineman that isn't acquainted with pass protection as much as linemen in other state, he's further along in his technique than you'd expect. He'll just take the fight to his opponents. He now just needs to work on his movement and become quicker because everything else is reminiscent of the typical Iowa linemen of the past. - Hawkeye Insider Publisher Derek Young
