Iowa NSD Profile: TE T.J. Hockenson

Profiling and breaking down the newest Iowa signee, tight end T.J. Hockenson.

HOMETOWN: Chariton, Iowa (Chariton HS)
POSITION: Tight End
RANKING: Three-Star, #3 Player in Iowa, #9 TE in Midwest, #45 TE in Country
SIZE: 6-5/225

RECRUITING STORY: It was an in-state battle between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones for Hockenson. They both saw him in camp and liked what they saw but Kirk Ferentz and Iowa are the ones that get to use his abilities on Saturdays in the Fall.

EVALUATION: Like Noah Fant, Hockenson has the body to compete for a job right away, a bit more so than Shaun Beyer who is still a bit of a work in progress in terms of developing physically. He was an elite receiver for his high school team and was also used some in-line. Hockenson is just a football player that should see the field early on in his career in Iowa City. While not as gifted athletically as Fant, he does understand how to get open and may be farther along in blocking ability and route-running. He'll need to get stronger which is nothing the Iowa strength staff can't do. - Hawkeye Insider Publisher Derek Young
