Iowa NSD Profile: FB/LB Kristian Welch

Profiling and breaking down the latest Iowa signee, Kristian Welch.

HOMETOWN: Iola, Wisconsin (Iola-Scandinavia HS)
POSITION: Fullback/Linebacker
RANKING: Two-star, #13 Player in Wisconsin
SIZE: 6-3/220

RECRUITING STORY: This was just a case of Iowa liking Welch much more than a lot of other programs. They've hit on a lot of these type of prospects before. They defeated a few MAC schools and FCS programs for his signature.

EVALUATION: He'll be one of the more intriguing stories, and more to see what position he actually plays. It's possible that Welch could bulk up and try defensive end but I think that is unlikely. He could make it to 240 pounds and be an inside linebacker. Welch isn't long but could try to learn the tight end spot. There's many tight ends in this class though so I find that to be an unlikely journey for him. I like him as a fullback. Macon Plewa came out of nowhere from Wisconsin, too, and was one of the better ones in the Big Ten while at Iowa. Welch could have good speed for a fullback and he already has that run and hit mentality you want from a fullback. Don't be surprised if that is the direction they go. There's a lot of linebackers and tight ends in this class. They lose two senior fullbacks.
