HOMETOWN: Brownsburg, Indiana (Brownsburg HS)
POSITION: Running Back
RANKING: Three-Star, #13 RB in Midwest, #52 RB in Country
RECRUITING STORY: Iowa won out for his services over schools such as Cincinnati, Illinois, and Indiana. A few MAC schools offered the three-star senior as well. The Hawkeyes did their part and won this recruitment fairly early, receiving his verbal pledge in June. They had to hold off the Hoosiers at the end as the in-state school made a play for him that almost resulted in an official visit. Iowa was able to step out front and prevent that from happening, securing their man.
EVALUATION: Akinribade is a good-sized kid with a strong build. He has good acceleration and once he gets into the open field, he has good speed for a bigger back. He runs a little upright, but will put his shoulder down and absorb contact. He has solid balance and ability to break tackles. He's not a back with a ton of wiggle or open-field elusiveness. He's a good receiver out of the backfield when asked to do that. - Scout Midwest Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu
I think he has a bit farther to go at running back than fellow backfield commit Toren Young. He's not as slippery or elusive in the open field but he's probably faster. He tested very well in the speed element at various element but he has to translate that to the field now. Toks does get up to his top gear in a quick manner, though, and is built very solidly. He's a load to bring down at times. His running style will need to be tinkered with some because he does not have the slight lean forward and exposes himself and the ball quite a bit. He'll be a great blocker and receiver in the passing game. Just like Young, I expect Akinribade to redshirt. - Hawkeye Insider Publisher Derek Young
