Iowa NSD Profile: LB Amani Jones

Profiling and breaking down the latest signee, linebacker Amani Jones.

HOMETOWN: Chicago, Illinois (Phillips Academy)
POSITION: Inside Linebacker
RANKING: Three-Star, #4 ILB in Midwest, #19 ILB in Country
SIZE: 5-11/215

RECRUITING STORY: The Chicago-area senior chose Iowa over Illinois and Indiana early on in his process. Like many of the Iowa commits, he made his verbal pledge in June and stayed on board without any drama.

EVALUATION: He's a big hitter who strikes ball-carriers violently. He explodes through his tackles. Jones has good closing speed and plays with aggressiveness and is always in attack mode. He's solid in space and makes quick reads. He's undersized, but plays bigger than his listed size. - Scout Midwest Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu

He'll likely be the heir apparent to Josey Jewell because of the similarities. He plays just like him and like you want your inside linebackers to be. The attention and recognition wasn't there because of his size but he plays downhill and arrives at the ball in a bad mood. He can play all over the field because of his quick diagnosis and explosion. Amani lets you know when he's made a tackle because he's a throwback type in how physical he can play. He plays whistle to whistle. Playing in space and in coverage is where strides will be needed to be made. - Hawkeye Insider Publisher Derek Young
