Iowa NSD Profile: S Amani Hooker

Profiling and breaking down the newest signee, safety Amani Hooker.

HOMETOWN: Brooklyn Park, Minnesota (Park Center HS)
POSITION: Safety
RANKING: Three-Star, #8 Player in Minnesota, #4 Safety in Midwest, #46 Safety in Country
SIZE: 6-1/205

RECRUITING STORY: The in-state Gophers didn't offer which opened the door here for Iowa. The Hawkeyes liked what they saw early from him and he joined the party in June. This might be one that Minnesota kicks themselves over for not offering.

EVALUATION: He's a good, instictive player who makes plays both in coverage and in run support. He jumps routes and has good hands and ball skills. He's a good-sized kid who will get bigger and stronger, but is physical and a reliable tackler. Hooker is more of a roamer in high school so he will have to work on his man-to-man ability in college, but he has the tools to develop into a complete safety. - Scout Midwest Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu

I think he's one of the more talented players in this class and will end up being one of the more produtive ones. The level of competition is not near the top but he absolutely dominated his senior year on both sides of the ball. He was scoring just as many touchdowns on defense and special teams as he was on offense. That can not be ignored. He is a playmaker and will make quarterbacks pay for poor decisions. Right now size is the question but he's going to get much bigger and maintain his athleticism. Once he can stick wideouts and slots by himself in man coverage, adds weight, and understands the scheme of the Iowa defense and what coordinator Phil Parker wants out of him, he's going to be a very, very dangerous football player. - Hawkeye Insider Publisher Derek Young
