Iowa NSD Profile: CB Emmanuel Rugamba

Profiling and breaking down the latest signee, cornerback Emmanuel Rugamba.

HOMETOWN: Naperville, Illinois (Central HS)
POSITION: Cornerback
RANKING: Three-Star, #2 CB in Midwest, #36 CB in Country
SIZE: 6-0/175

RECRUITING STORY: Rugamba was not apart of the flurry of commits in June. He held off until the first day of August. The Chicago-area athlete chose the Hawkeyes over Iowa State, Indiana, Illinois, and Pittsburgh. That was another nice pull from a Big Ten opponent's backyard. There's a good share of solid recruiting wins for Iowa in this class and he's certainly one of them.

EVALUATION: His name is the biggest mouthful to say and he'll be a big handful for offensive teams in the Big Ten. I think he's the most gifted of all the cornerbacks the Hawkeyes are bringing in. He's that talented. His hip flexibility is off the charts and he can close on the ball and receivers well. He may not be the fastest but it's the short bursts of speed he has and his change of direction that should allow him to hang in coverage and blanket wideouts at the next level. He's actually more comfortable at wideout but his highest ceiling is on the outside at corner. His hands and ball skills should allow him to be a ball-hawk as well and be very adept at making the opponent pay for mistakes. He just needs to get stronger and add weight and that will come.
