It was just a few weeks ago that Iowa secured the verbal pledge of A.J. Epenesa, the top defensive end in the country for the 2017 class. The Hawkeye legacy has maintained that label in the new batch of 2017 rankings by Scout. He's added another tag. Epenesa is a five-star prospect now headed to Iowa City.
Epenesa is a tear off the edge and a mountain of a man for a junior in high school. He will give the Hawkeyes an instant pass-rusher and a very developed one at that. He's already a physical presence at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds. With another year and a half before he is set to arrive for his freshman year of college, it is fair to say that Epenesa will be around 260-265 pounds at that time.
He projects to be a strong-side defensive end for Phil Parker's defense. He'll surely receive playing time the second he arrives on campus.
The 19th overall prospet in the country, Epenesa is firm to Iowa and there are no signs that his verbal pledge to Iowa will waiver.
