DJIMON COLBERT WAS NOMINATED FOR THE U.S. ARMY ALL-AMERICA GAME. DO YOU SEE HIM PLAYING IN IT?
Dylan: He was nominated, but I don't know about the level of talent at the safety spot in front of him. He certainly has the talent to play in it, I hope he does and I think he will.
Derek: He certainly is deserving but I'm not certain that he will.
COULD YOU SEE A.J. EPENESA GETTING BIGGER AND PLAYING DEFENSIVE TACKLE, SIMILARLY TO MALIK MCDOWELL?
Dylan: I think A.J. has too much speed and athleticism to be bumped inside. He's best suited as an edge rusher. Will be getting to the quarterback quite a bit in his career.
Derek: I don't think he's like McDowell in that regard. I think he's an end and an end only. He's certainly capable of sliding inside if Iowa were to need that. He'll have that type of versatility. But he's best used on the edge.
BETTER PLAYER, KYRIE IRVING OR DAMIAN LILLARD?
Dylan: Give me Lillard all day. Healthier than Kyrie. Averages more points and assists per game and his PER is higher. More of a point guard than Irving is.
Derek: I'm a huge fan of Damian Lillard but I'd go with Kyrie Irving. Irving isn't a true point guard at all and tends to dominate the ball, but if we're just talking better basketball player in general, my pick is Kyrie. He is a better ball handler and can score from just about anywhere on the court and against whoever is guarding him. He's explosive. Lillard tends to slip offensively against bigger, longer defenders whereas Kyrie is more consistent and much more difficult to put a lid on.
WOULD YOU TAKE BEN SIMMONS OR BRANDON INGRAM NUMBER ONE?
Dylan: As talented as Simmons is, i hated the story about him not going to classes. Just shows he's irresponsible. Both are extremely talented, but I'd take Ingram over Simmons. Seems more mature at this point.
Derek: Unlike Dylan, I don't care about Ben Simmons not going to classes. He wouldn't have gone to school if they didn't force him to, he'd just go straight from high school to the NBA so we can't be surprised when some of these kids are careless with class because they know it's only for a year. But aside from that, I would still go with Brandon Ingram. He's longer and has more untapped potential in my mind. You know what you're getting with Simmons and I don't think he's this transcendent player some are calling him. He's 6-10 and has excellent handles but he's an average shooter at best so he's going to have to play closer to the basket to be efficient.
SEEMS LIKE WHENEVER QUARTERBACKS GO 1-2 IN THE DRAFT, ONLY ONE WORKS OUT. SO BETWEEN JARED GOFF AND CARSON WENTZ, WHO DO YOU THINK WILL HAVE THE BETTER CAREER? AND OF THE LAST TWO 1-2 PICKS (MARCUS MARIOTA AND JAMEIS WINSTON VS JARED GOFF AND CARSON WENTZ), WHO IS GOING TO HAVE THE BEST CAREER?
Dylan: I had trouble here. I didn't see much of Wentz in college but he seems to have the size and ability but there was a lot of talk about the talent he played against at NDSU. Both are going to franchises that aren't exactly killing it right now, but I think Goff will have the better pro career. Could depend on who, if any, gets a year or two to learn.
This one is easy for me. It's Mariota and Winston. I just think there is more talent there, plus they've had a year to prove they could be long term options for their respective franchises.
Derek: I think Jared Goff is walking into a better situation and usually that dictates the success of players. Wentz is arriving in Philadelphia with a roster that is pretty devoid of top notch talent. He'll have toys like Ryan Matthews, Jordan Matthews, and Nelson Agholor and Zach Ertz. That isn't bad but they aren't going to be contending for the playoffs with that. Whereas with Goff, he has Todd Gurley in his backfield. He has a pretty good offensive line already. They have a fantastic defense. He's more set up for success immediately than Wentz.
I don't think Mariota is going to have all that fantastic of a career and I think Jameis Winston will be decent but he is prone to turnovers. Simply put, I'm not in love with any of them. But Goff has a shot because of the talent surrounding him.
WAS IOWA EVER INVOLVED WITH POINT GUARD SPIKE ALBRECHT, THE MICHIGAN TRANSFER? HE IS GOING TO PURDUE.
Dylan: I don't believe Iowa was involved at all. He would've been a nice player to get because you get him for a year and let Williams and Bohannon learn from him. I don't know if Fran reached out to him or not, but I most certainly would have.
Derek: I did not hear about them kicking the tires here at all. It did not seem like they wanted to go the post-grad transfer route. They were looking for high school seniors only.
