Iowa has attracted major attention from one of the top players in the East, Luka Garza from Maret School in Washington, D.C. Garza is a 6-foot-9 center and an early three-star prospect with a ton of potential.
His offer sheet includes Saint Joseph's, Seton Hall, and Alabama in addition to Fran McCaffery and the Hawkeyes. Garza did reel in another major offer soon after his official visit to Iowa City. Once arriving home from his trip to get a look at Iowa, Rick Pitino and Louisville extended a scholarship to him as well.
The Cardinals are a notorious powerhouse program that has a lot of national reach and that offer did catch his eye immediately.
"Louisville is definitely a school I'm definitely going to consider," he said to Scout. "I'm going to visit them probably in June."
While that visit will come in about a month, his visit to see the Hawkeyes was last weekend and could not have gone better.
"It was amazing," Garza admitted. "I got a great feel for the players, coaches, and the general community. I didn't get to meet the players the last time I visited so that was awesome to do this time. They really made me feel comfortable."
His second time being on campus, Garza was able to receive a lot of direct and serious attention from the Iowa head coach.
"Coach McCaffery gave me a lot of heavy attention," Garza shared. "It was awesome. We had a lot of great talks. We discussed how I could affect the program on and off the court, and what the program could do for me on and off the court."
Garza finished by pointing out that Iowa was in strong position in his recruitment.
"Iowa is definitely one of my favorite schools," he stated.
