One of the more prestigious honors a high school football player can grab is an invite to Nike's The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Oregon. There's also the all-star games such as the U.S. Army All-American Game, The Semper Fi Bowl, and the Under Armour Game but The Opening Finals are right up there with those accolades. The best of the best get invited to The Opening Finals in Oregon.
One of the invitees this year is Iowa City West wideout Oliver Martin. The senior-to-be had an outstanding performance at the regionals in Chicago and also sports a very strong highlight tape. It kind of begs the question why other offers have not come his way. Right now, he only holds offers from MAC programs. Iowa and Iowa State are both showing interest, as is Minnesota. All three will host him at their prospect camps over the summer on their respective campuses.
Martin is a 6-foot-1, 190 pound receiver. He also lit up some of the testing portions of the regionals in Chicago, turning out the fifth highest SPARQ rating there of 112.62. He ran a 4.65 40, a 4.15 shuttle, had a powerball toss of 38.0, and a 37.8 inch vertical leap. Along with his performance in wide receiver drills, it was good enough to garner MVP honors among all wideouts.
He'll get to compete with the rest of the nationally recognized wideouts at Nike's national and selective camp in Beaverton, Oregon, and face the nation's best cornerbacks and safeties as well. It will be a great opportunity for Martin to show what he's capable of, as well as improve his game.
